THE WOOD SERIES
One of the most impressive things in the Michigan area where I currently live, is the amount of mature trees. It creates an environment that makes me feel as living in a forest. Plenty of shade during the hot summer months, combined with green lawn all around. It somehow calms me down, generates an environment of silence and structured nature.
Along with the woods there is a wide range of wild animals around. The area is frequented by over hundred bird species (including the red cardinal), white-tail deer, red fox, coyote, weasel, squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, raccoons and groundhogs. Beside the coyote, I have seen all of these wild animals in our backyard. Last winter we found coyote footprints next to our house, these wild canids are people shy and I doubt, that I will ever see them. It is hard to protect my herbs and flowers in our garden against hungry deer and other animals. I am not yet giving up.
This impressive environment inspired me to create the WOOD SERIES. Collages and acrylic paint on canvas. 4 pieces of artwork focus on our backyard visitors. Another series of 4 pieces focus on wood and trees.
